Frozen Orange Sherbet Margarita

Made with a couple of scoops of orange sherbet and a few squeezes of fresh juice blended right in, this Frozen Orange Sherbet Margarita is slightly sweet, a little tangy, and extra creamy and delicious.

Frozen Orange Sherbet Margarita

It’s no secret that we love a good margarita in our house. After all, you may remember that Steve declared this past summer as the “Summer of Tequila”, as mentioned in my Watermelon Mint Margarita post. Well I guess we might as well just extend it out to the “Fall of Tequila” as well, because we are still going strong. And that means lots of new margarita recipes have been whipped up in our kitchen lately.

This Frozen Orange Sherbet Margarita is our latest creation. With a couple of scoops of orange sherbet blended right in, these margaritas are a little sweeter than the tequila cocktails we usually make, but don’t worry they aren’t over the top, cloyingly sweet. The orange sherbet brings a delightful creaminess to these blended margaritas, but the sweetness is balanced out with tart fresh orange and lime juice. Overall these are the perfect desert cocktail to enjoy after dinner (especially after enjoying these Pulled Pork Carnitas Tacos with Jalapeno Lime Brussels Sprout Slaw!).

How Do You Make an Orange Sherbet Margarita

Making this Blended Orange Sherbet Margarita couldn’t be easier. You just add all of the ingredients to a blender and blend on high for a couple of minutes until everything is blended and creamy. The recipe makes two cocktails as written, which is just the right amount for us to enjoy these as a desert cocktail after dinner, but you can always double or triple the recipe if you want to make more.

To make these Frozen Orange Sherbet Margaritas, you will need:

  • Tequila: I like margaritas best with silver tequila or tequila blanco. This has a lighter flavor, allowing the flavors of the margarita to shine through. You don’t need top shelf tequila (we are mixing it with orange sherbet after all), but choose something you are comfortable drinking.
  • Triple Sec: Triple sec is an orange liquor that is common in margaritas. You can also substitute other orange flavored liquors such as Grand Marnier or curaçao.
  • Ice: As with any frozen margarita recipe, you can’t skip the ice. I find that about 1 cup of ice is enough to make these chilled and frosty. One cup is about 6 – 8 ice cubes, but this will depend on the size of your ice.
  • Orange Sherbet: 3 scoops of orange sherbet are the star of this Frozen Orange Sherbet Margarita. The sherbet adds just enough creaminess and sweetness without taking it over the top.
  • Fresh Orange and Lime Juice: I like to add a little fresh squeezed juice to any of my margaritas or tequila cocktails to brighten up the flavors and add some freshness. In this Orange Sherbet Margarita, a little orange and lime juice brings sweetness and tartness.

Once everything is added to your blender, just blend it up, pour, and enjoy!

Can I Make This Creamy Margarita with Other Sherbet Flavors?

Absolutely! I think this would be awesome with any other sherbet flavor as well, such as raspberry or lime. I would just substitute the sherbet for your favorite flavor, keeping all of the other ingredients the same. I especially want to try this Creamy Sherbet Margarita recipe with raspberry sherbet. I can just imagine it would be the perfect creamy, dreamy pink color!
