Strawberry Blood Orange Margarita Pitcher Recipe

What’s better than Strawberry Blood Orange Margaritas? A big pitcher of Strawberry Blood Orange Margaritas!

I love simple, fresh a homemade citrusy margarita, you know, the kind where you squeeze loads of fresh citrus juice and then just finish it off with some tequila and ice. It’s so light and refreshing, and simply perfect for a warm sunny afternoon, basking in the sun or a nice cool cocktail after a long hot day. But the problem with those kind of margaritas is that they mean juicing like a thousand limes, oranges, and/or grapefruits for just a little bit of juice. By the time I have made a couple of drinks, it seems like my entire kitchen is a big sticky mess. Plus, it takes so much time and hassle mixing up each drink – and let’s be honest, no one has time for that!

This Strawberry Blood Orange Margarita Pitcher solves all of those problems! (Well you still have to juice some limes, but you do it all at once, and then have a big pitcher of margaritas to enjoy, so it’s worth it.)

How Do You Make a Pitcher of Strawberry Blood Orange Margaritas?

This Strawberry Blood Orange Margarita Pitcher takes just a few ingredients, and is quick and easy to make. To mix up a batch for your friends, you just need:

  • Strawberry Simple Syrup: I wanted these Strawberry Blood Orange Margaritas to be light and refreshing, so instead of using a strawberry puree, which can be a bit thick and pulpy, I opted for an easy strawberry simple syrup. The strawberry simple syrup has a light and sweet strawberry flavor. To make the simple syrup, just add some strawberries (fresh or frozen), water, and sugar to a pot, bring to boil, and simmer for 20 minutes. After the mixture has cooled slightly, strain out the strawberries and refrigerate until ready to use.
  • Blood Orange Soda: I found this great Blood Orange Italian Soda at the store, and stocked up, so that was my inspiration for these Strawberry Blood Orange Margaritas. If you can’t find Blood Orange Italian soda, any blood orange soda will do. You can also substitute 2 cups fresh squeezed blood orange juice and about 1 cup club soda or tonic to create a similar-ish soda. Keep in mind, club soda will be less sweet than using the tonic.
  • Fresh Lime Juice: Any good margarita recipe needs some lime, so for this Strawberry Blood Orange Margarita Pitcher recipe, I juiced up enough limes to get about 1 cup of juice. You can substitute a good bottled lime juice if you really can’t stand to juice the limes yourself, but the flavor of fresh limes is always so much brighter and fresher, I think it’s worth it.
  • Tequila: We can’t forget the tequila! For this Strawberry Blood Orange Margarita Pitcher recipe, I used one of my favorite silver tequilas, my go to for any flavored margarita, as the subtle flavor lets the fruity, sweet flavors come through.
  • Ice: Finally, a margarita should be served extra cold over the rocks, so fill your glass all of the way up with ice when serving.

These Strawberry Blood Orange Margaritas by the pitcher would  be perfect refreshing cocktail served up alongside these Chili Lime Shrimp Tacos with Strawberry Avocado Salsa. Or mix up a pitcher for your next taco Tuesday or Mexican fiesta, or even if you are just looking for something fruity and refreshing for your Saturday night.

Ingredients

Strawberry Blood Orange Margaritas

  • 2 cups strawberry simple syrup (recipe below)
  • 1 cup lime juice (freshly squeezed)
  • 2 cups tequila
  • 750 ml blood orange Italian soda (about 3 cups)

Strawberry Simple Syrup

  • 2 cups water
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup strawberries (fresh or frozen)

Instructions

To make the simple syrup:

  • Add strawberries, water, and sugar to a pot, bring to boil, and simmer over low heat for 20 minutes. After the mixture has cooled slightly, strain out the strawberries using a fine mesh strainer. Be careful not to push the strawberries too much through the strainer or the mixture will be cloudy. Refrigerate until ready to use.

To make the Strawberry Blood Orange Margarita Pitcher:

  • Chill all ingredients before mixing. In a large pitcher, mix all ingredients, and stir gently to combine.
  • To serve, rim a tall glass with salt or sugar, if desired. Fill glass most of the way up with ice. Pour margaritas over ice.
