Rosemary Grapefruit Moscow Mule Recipe

I am a sucker for anything ginger. There is just something about that that pungent, slightly spicy gingery bite that I can’t get enough of. I love cooking with ginger. I am always adding it to brighten up salad dressings like in this Maple Ginger Vinaigrette. Or using it to add an Asian flair, like with this Asian inspired Chicken Noodle Soup. I even love ginger tea. But one of the best ways to have ginger is in a Moscow mule!

These Rosemary Grapefruit Moscow Mules are a flavor combination that doesn’t disappoint. The spicy ginger and tart grapefruit juice is sweetened up with a splash of sweet simple syrup. Made with agave syrup, the simple syrup is sweet, but adding just a couple of sprigs of fresh rosemary to the simple syrup adds just a hint of piney rosemary finish that pairs with the tart grapefruit juice beautifully. Plus, with a light pink hue from the grapefruit juice, these Moscow mules are just as pretty as they are tasty.

Can I Substitute Sugar Instead of Agave Simple Syrup?

Absolutely! I used agave to sweeten the syrup for this Rosemary Grapefruit Moscow Mule because I love the extra sweetness of agave paired with the tart grapefruit juice. But, if you don’t have agave syrup, plain sugar will work just fine as well. The basic recipe for simple syrup is equal parts sugar to water, but I find agave to be sweeter than sugar, so I reduced the amount a little. If you are using sugar, you will want to up the amount to ¾ cup to equal the amount of water.

The most important thing about the simple syrup is not to skip the rosemary. I tried these mules without it, and they just seemed like they were missing something. So the rosemary definitely takes them to the next level.
