Creamy Dill Pickle Dip

There is a common passion that several of my friends and I share, and that is a complete love for (or really I should say obsession with) everything pickle. I am not sure when my love affair with pickles began exactly. I was always a fan of pickles, but I don’t think it was until sometime in college when my obsession with everything dill pickle really took on a life of its own.

If you love dill pickles as much as I do, you have to try this dip, and even if you don’t have a complete obsession, this dip is hard to pass up. With a combination of creamy sour cream and Greek yogurt and crunchy bits of tangy, sour, pickles, this Dill Pickle Dip is the perfect snack or appetizer for any party.

How Do I Make Dill Pickle Dip?

You can mix up this dip quickly and easily in just about 10 – 15 minutes, making it the perfect dish to bring to a party. Just chop up the pickles, mix everything together, and let sit for at least two hours before enjoying – this is honestly the hardest part of the recipe, but trust me, the dip tastes so much better after the dip has had time to sit and the flavors meld together.

When dicing the pickles, make sure to dice them very small. The smaller the pickles, the easier the dip will be to eat (as larger chunks can be harder to scoop up with your chips). I have a manual food chopper that I like to use when prepping this dip, as it allows you to quickly chop the pickles into tiny pieces. If you don’t have one, I highly recommend it to save time when chopping things like onions, garlic, jalapenos, and more. Or to save even more time, you could also use an automatic mini food chopper. This Black & Decker Mini Food Chopper is great as it is dishwasher friendly for quick clean up.

Do I Need to Use Sour Cream & Greek Yogurt for This Dip?

When making this Dill Pickle Dip, I usually use a combination of both sour cream and Greek yogurt (using equal parts of each). I think this combination gives a good flavor and rich, creamy texture while the Greek yogurt helps to lighten the dip up a bit, so it’s healthy right?

I always have a big container of Greek yogurt in the fridge since I use it in my morning smoothies. If you don’t want to buy Greek yogurt just for this recipe or if you absolutely hate the taste of it, you can just use all sour cream.

However, if you have never used Greek yogurt before, I recommend you check it out. Greek yogurt is high in protein, calcium, potassium, vitamin B12, and zinc. It also contains probiotics to boost your immune system and digestion. I personally think that Greek yogurt tastes a lot like sour cream, and it has the same thick, creamy texture. If you want to make this dip even healthier, you can substitute all Greek yogurt in place of the sour cream.

Creamy Onion and Pickle Dip for Chips

What Should I Serve with Creamy Pickle Dip?

I usually serve Dill Pickle Dip with wavy potato chips as they can stand up to the texture of this dip and allow you to scoop up the chunks of pickles without breaking, but this dip can be served with a variety of veggies or snacks for dipping. Some great options for dipping in this pickle dip include:

  • Potato chips – I usually use wavy or kettle cooked chips, but if you really love pickles, dill pickle flavored potato chips give you an extra punch of pickle flavor and tang
  • Fresh Cut Veggies – such as cucumbers, carrots, celery, pepper slices, radishes, and more
  • Pretzels – either pretzel chips or sticks would work
  • Pita Chips
  • Bread – I haven’t tried this, but I am guessing slices or chunks of rye or sourdough bread would be great to dip as well – think of it as a twist on dill dip in a bread bowl
