Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef (I used 85/15)
  • 1 small onion
  • 1 small green pepper
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1 tbs butter
  • 2 tbs ketchup
  • 1 tbs Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tbs cornstarch
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 6 hoagie rolls or buns
  • 6 - 12 slices provolone cheese

Instructions

  • In a skillet, brown ground beef until cooked through.
  • While the beef cooks, slice the onion and peppers and mince the garlic.
  • Removed cooked beef from skillet, draining any excess grease if necessary.
  • In same skillet over medium heat, add 1 tbs butter, and cook onions, peppers, and garlic for about 4 - 5 minutes until they begin to soften.
  • In a small bowl, whisk the ketchup, Worcestershire, salt, pepper, cornstarch, and beef broth. Add to skillet and return meat to pan. Cook an additional 2 – 3 minutes until the mixture thickens to a sauce.
  • Spoon meat and vegetable mixture on to rolls or buns, top with 1 – 2 slices cheese each (I like to layer some cheese under the meat and another layer on top). Place sandwiches under broiler for 1 -2 minutes to melt cheese (watching closely so bread does not burn).
