Servings: 6
- 1 pound ground beef (I used 85/15)
- 1 small onion
- 1 small green pepper
- 2 cloves garlic
- 1 tbs butter
- 2 tbs ketchup
- 1 tbs Worcestershire sauce
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 1 tbs cornstarch
- 1 cup beef broth
- 6 hoagie rolls or buns
- 6 - 12 slices provolone cheese
In a skillet, brown ground beef until cooked through.
While the beef cooks, slice the onion and peppers and mince the garlic.
Removed cooked beef from skillet, draining any excess grease if necessary.
In same skillet over medium heat, add 1 tbs butter, and cook onions, peppers, and garlic for about 4 - 5 minutes until they begin to soften.
In a small bowl, whisk the ketchup, Worcestershire, salt, pepper, cornstarch, and beef broth. Add to skillet and return meat to pan. Cook an additional 2 – 3 minutes until the mixture thickens to a sauce.
Spoon meat and vegetable mixture on to rolls or buns, top with 1 – 2 slices cheese each (I like to layer some cheese under the meat and another layer on top). Place sandwiches under broiler for 1 -2 minutes to melt cheese (watching closely so bread does not burn).
